Ashgabat and Kiev discuss strengthening cooperation during pandemic

The governments of the two countries will intensify collaboration in the economic and humanitarian spheres.

On April 15 the deputy foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Ukraine Berdiniyaz Myatiev and Vasily Bodnar discussed consolidation of relations in various fields during the pandemic. The topic of mutual collaboration within the framework of international organizations was also considered. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

Online negotiations took place as a part of the agreements reached by the foreign ministers on April 2. Diplomats marked the importance of enhancing the development of relations in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres.

In this connection, the parties plan to sign a cooperation program for 2020–2021 between the relevant departments of Ukraine and Turkmenistan.

The meeting agenda included a discussion of the prospects for cooperation within the framework of international organizations, especially the UN.

Officials also focused on combining efforts to minimize the negative impact of coronavirus on the economy of both countries, protecting the rights and interests of their citizens. It was underlined that this process will deepen inter-regional partnerships, create more comfortable conditions for Ukrainian companies in Turkmenistan and restore mutual ties in the energy sector.

The parties agreed that it is necessary to expand cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as the collaboration in the educational, scientific and technical fields. Attention was also paid to further diplomatic training and conducting relevant online seminars.
