Kazakhstan to chair WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference

The Ministerial Conference will take place in Geneva in late November.

On May 31, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a meeting via videoconference with Director-General of the World Trade Organization Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. They discussed the details of interaction between the international organisation and Kazakhstan in preparation for the upcoming WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12), the press office of Akorda reported.

Tokayev wished his interlocutor every success in her new responsibilities of the WTO Director-General. The agenda of the meeting focused on the preparations for the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference, which would be chaired by Kazakhstan.

The Ministerial Conference will take place in Geneva in late November. Emphasising that it was a great honour for the country to chair the forum, the President of Kazakhstan said the Government would actively engage with the WTO Secretariat to address organisational matters of the joint event. Tokayev added that Kazakhstan was looking forward to a productive and successful outcome of the Conference and ready to participate constructively in the discussions of the outstanding issues on the agenda.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala suggested that Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev consider the possibility of providing Kazakhstan’s assistance in organising a business forum in the margins of the Ministerial Conference and invited the leader of Kazakhstan to attend the international event.
