Mirziyoyev orders to set up new agrochemical delivery system

Plant protection involves complex activities of crucial importance in assuring food safety and quality and increasing food exports.

On May 25, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting that focused on the improvement of plant protection practices. He noted that plant protection involved complex activities of crucial importance in assuring food safety and quality and increasing food exports. Currently, Uzagrokimyohimoya JSC is responsible for coordinating such activities, the website of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The participants in the meeting proposed that Uzagrokimyohimoya JSC be dissolved and its authorities and functions be delegated to other institutions. The leader of Uzbekistan supported the proposal and ordered to set up the Republican Commission that would take these measures. The Deputy Prime Minister and the territorial commissions headed by region khokims would chair the Commission.

The President highlighted the need to open biological laboratories and plant clinics, engage qualified agronomists and entomologists, create and provide every farmer with access to a wide network of agrochemical services. Account should be taken of particular features specific to each region, Mirziyoyev said. For example, alfalfa plant bugs commonly appear in Surkhandarya Region, a wilt disease – in Bukhara Region and tomato moths – in other regions.

In accordance with Mirziyoyev’s instructions, Agrobank will provide funding to broaden this sphere of activity. At the first stage, it will launch a credit line of 150 billion soums to set up modern laboratories, purchase equipment and technology and provide working capital to service organisations.
