Kyrgyzstan plans to introduce VAT on a number of medicines

The Chairman of the Government suggested including only essential drugs in the list of VAT-free medicines.

On May 26, Chairman the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulukbek Maripov held a meeting to discuss the List of VAT-free medical equipment and medicines. The Prime Minister stressed that many high-ranking officials would be dismissed if they failed to present the new List at the next meeting, the press office of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The Chairman of the Government suggested including only essential drugs in the list of VAT-free medicines and levying VAT on the rest.

“We are unable decide on a new List From meeting to meeting. We will have to say goodbye to many high-ranking officials if the new list with reasonable grounds is not ready by the next meeting. It will last forever, but it affects the lives of ordinary people who cannot buy medicines at affordable prices,” Maripov said.

The Prime Minister emphasised that it was the priority task of the state to provide citizens of the country with affordable medicines.
