Putin comments on Kyrgyz-Tajik border clash

In Russia, the leaders of the two states discussed the current state and possibilities of promoting bilateral partnerships.

On May 24, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov had a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during his working visit to the Russian Federation. The leaders of the two states considered the possibilities of promoting bilateral cooperation, as well as priority plans for interaction within the integration associations, the press office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Putin said he had been closely and with great concern following the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

He noted that this issue was discussed with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who had visited Moscow earlier.

“We welcomed the desire of the parties to resolve all matters of this kind through negotiation. I believe that this is the way in which the goal can be achieved. We will do everything in our power to help you address these matters,” the Russian leader said.

Japarov thanked his counterpart for his empathy and attention to developments along the border, emphasising that Russia was the major ally and trade and economic partner of Kyrgyzstan.
