Tajikistan and Kazakhstan to increase trade to US$ 2 billion

President Emomali Rahmon and President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev took up this issue during top-level talks in Dushanbe.

On May 19, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the leader of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, who paid his first official visit to Dushanbe as the head of state. The parties agreed to expand economic contacts and increase the volume of bilateral trade, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

The leaders of the two states instructed that the Governments elaborate new approaches to increasing the volume of bilateral trade to US$ 2 billion in the next 5 years. Rahmon and Tokayev also agreed to develop a roadmap for 2022-2023 in this sphere.

The interlocutors highlighted the need to create joint ventures with a complete production cycle, from processing raw materials to manufacturing final products. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for cooperation in the mechanical engineering, industrial and logistics sectors.

The leaders of the Republics highlighted the need to increase mutual supplies of agricultural products and open wholesale distribution centres in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.

A memorandum of partnership between the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan on the implementation of a commodity distribution system project was signed in the presence of the leaders of the Republics. Approximately US$ 500 million will be allocated for this purpose.
