UN declares Aral Sea region a zone of ecological innovations and technologies

The Resolution was adopted at the initiative of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

On May 18, the United Nations adopted a special resolution declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of ecological innovations and technologies at the initiative of the leader of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 75th session of the General Assembly, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.

About 60 countries from different regions of the world supported the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan.

Through the Resolution, the UN Assembly supports regional cooperation in solving the ecological, social, economic and demographic problems of the Aral Sea region and encourages research and scientific advisory activities to recover and improve the environment, preserve natural resources and enhance the quality of life in the region. The General Assembly also urges to step up regional efforts in taking joint actions to mitigate health and ecological consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and monitor the environmental situation in the region and encourages stakeholders to conduct cross-sectional study, create and introduce environmentally sound technologies, promote sustainable economic development and use energy and water saving technologies.

The Resolution will allow combining forces and provide coherence with the projects of UN specialised agencies, funds and programmes for the priorities of regional interactions and integration.
