Tajikistan bans flights of two Russian airlines

The ban was imposed on Siberia Airlines and Nordwind Airlines due to increase in their flight prices.

The Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan banned the flights between Dushanbe and Moscow operated by Siberia Airlines and Nordwind Airlines. On May 18, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan Ikrom Subkhonzoda said this had been done due to an unreasonable increase in their flight prices, the press office of the Agency reported.

Subkhonzoda said instead of 8,500 somoni (about US$745) tickets of these airlines cost 15,000 somoni (about US$1,315) and were sold out in 2 months.

Subkhonzoda added that these companies had signed a protocol to lower the prices, but never complied with the terms of the document. He emphasised that the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan had warned that it would cancel their flights if the companies did not lower their flight prices.

As was reported, air services between Tajikistan and Russia were resumed on April 1. Initially, Ural Airlines, UTair, Siberia and Nordwind operated the flights from the Russian Federation.
