Nur-Sultan calls on Kabul to promote intergovernmental dialogue

Tokayev underlined Kazakhstan’s readiness to provide all possible assistance in building integral, stable and neutral Afghanistan.

On May 13, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a telephone conversation with President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani. The parties discussed a number of issues of the international and bilateral spectrum of relations. The conversation took place at the initiative of the Afghan side, the press office of Akorda reported.

The leaders of the two states exchanged their best wishes for Oraza Ait and their views on the withdrawal of the US and NATO troops from Afghanistan. In this context, the parties reaffirmed that the peaceful instruments should be utilised involving Afghanistan to reach a political and diplomatic settlement.

Tokayev underlined Kazakhstan’s readiness to provide all possible assistance in building integral, stable and neutral Afghanistan.

“In this regard, contacts between the governments of the two countries, whose task is to address urgent issues of economic and humanitarian cooperation as soon as possible, need to be intensified,” the leader of Kazakhstan said.

The Afghan leader expressed gratitude to the Central Asian state for providing Afghanistan with continued and effective support in resolving internal issues. He supported the opinion on the importance of using a business-like approach to promote Kazakhstan-Afghanistan cooperation. The emphasis was placed on Kazakhstan’s fruitful contribution to global efforts to stabilise Afghanistan.
