Tajikistan continues to support Afghan government

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan had a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistan.

On May 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojidin Mukhriddin held talks with U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad. Muhriddin said his country supported the efforts made by the Afghan government and the international community to ensure security, peace and stability in the IRA, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reports.

The diplomats exchanged views on the aspects of interstate and regional relations and interactions in various fields, the situation in Afghanistan, the progress of intra-Afghan peace talks, the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan and the preparations for a peace conference in Istanbul.

Expressing satisfaction with coherence of positions within the international organisations and on the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, Sirojidin Mukhriddin and Zalmay Khalilzad highlighted the need to enhance cooperation.

The parties underscored the need to monitor continuously the progress and expansion of Tajikistan-US cooperation.
