Speaking at the Central Asian Leaders’ Consultative Summit, the President proposed that a mechanism for resolving border incidents be set up.
On April 30, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev made a statement to the representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan concerning an armed clash on the border between the two countries. The speech of the leader of Kazakhstan was posted on his website.
Noting that the news about an armed incident on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan had aroused concern, the President emphasised that the people of Kazakhstan viewed the peoples of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan as their brothers. We all were bound by a common history and cultural values, and peace and mutual respect were inherent in our states and our peoples, the President said.
The leader of Kazakhstan positively evaluated the decision to end the conflict and start negotiations. He expressed belief that the leaders of the two neighbouring states would demonstrate diplomatic experience and wisdom and find the right positions towards resolving all controversies, guided solely by peaceful methods.
The President of Kazakhstan said he was ready to provide support in finding optimal solutions and restoring trust-based relations. Tokayev proposed that the agenda of the next Central Asia Summit would focus on setting up a mechanism for resolving border incidents.
