Berdimuhamedov and Mirziyoyev focused on trade, investment and industrial collaboration.
On April 29, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the leader of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Ashgabat. The heads of the states discussed the prospects for cooperation in trade, investment and industrial spheres, and also visited the main mosque of the country, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».
At the Ashgabat international airport, Mirziyoyev was met by Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs. After that, the Uzbek leader visited the presidential palace complex «Oguzhan». There he met with Berdimuhamedov.
Mirziyoyev expressed condolences to his colleague due to the death of his father, Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov. He noted that Myalikguly was a noble man, a true patriot and a wise teacher for all Turkmen people.
The Presidents stressed that in recent years, the volume of trade turnover between the countries has increased more than three times. Last year it reached 530 million dollars. In addition, the countries have established more than 150 joint ventures.
The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening interstate relations in transport, energy, machine-building, agriculture, light and food industries, water management.
Mirziyoyev underlined that Tashkent is ready to continue promoting the Ashgabat agreement on the creation of an international transport and transit corridor and to expand the load on the China-Central Asia-South Caucasus-Turkey multimodal route.
The President of Uzbekistan thanked Berdimuhamedov for the initiative to open the Tashkent Park in the capital of Turkmenistan, which will symbolize the strength of fraternal ties between countries.
The parties also stressed the importance of holding a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology, and culture in the capital of Uzbekistan soon.
After that, the leaders of the countries visited the «Turkmenbashi Ruhy» mosque in Kipchak, where they honored the memory of the first president of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov and took part in an iftar in memory of Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov. The dinner was also attended by the muftis of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Then Mirziyoyev completed his working visit to Ashgabat and left for Tashkent.
