President visits tourist centre in Samarkand

The complex occupies an area of 212 hectares on the bank of the rowing canal in Samarkand. The centre will comprise 10 facilities, including the congress hall, hotels and recreation areas.

On April 15, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the construction site of the tourist centre in Samarkand. The complex occupies an area of 212 hectares on the bank of the rowing canal in Samarkand, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The centre will comprise 10 facilities, including the congress hall, hotels and recreation areas. Currently, the congress hall, the Eternal City caravanserai and 8 hotels are under construction. The building complex will include two 22-storey five-star hotels and 6 four-star hotels.

Though the city has many hotels, they are not able to cope with the swells during the high season travel months. This situation occurred in 2019, when all the hotels in Samarkand were fully booked. Ample opportunities being created in the country to modernise the tourism industry and the visa-free travel regime for citizens of about 90 countries increase the number of tourist arrivals.

The tourist centre will serve as a hub. It will offer excellent working conditions to host international events. The tourist complex will start working in 2022.

Mirziyoyev inspected the overpass connecting the tourist centre with the city and ongoing landscaping activities on Ust Umar Zhurakulov and Afrosiab streets.
