Meredov marks importance of trust in world politics

The head of the MFA of Turkmenistan touched upon the topic within the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.

On April 2, the head of the MFA of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, which was held in Moscow. As part of his speech the official stressed the importance of restoring trust in world politics and establishing a culture of respectful dialogue between states, as reported by the press office of the MFA of Turkmenistan.

Meredov said that the countries need to follow the UN Charter within the framework of interstate cooperation. Special attention was paid to the usefulness of the initiative of the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov regarding the proclamation of this year as the International Year of Peace and Trust within the resolution of the UN General Assembly.

The Minister noted that at the moment the authorities of Turkmenistan work on the UN Code of Rules on the effective use of the principles of neutrality in the field of resolving interstate issues.

The implementation of the action program to enhance cooperation between the diplomatic departments of the CIS member states, which was adopted at the suggestion of Ashgabat, was also considered. The focus was made on the importance of expanding interaction between states in culture, medicine, sports and tourism.

It must be added that the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will be held in Minsk on October 14, 2021.
