Berdimuhamedov proposes 3 vectors of cooperation within Turkic Council

The Turkmen leader noted the importance of ensuring global energy security, developing the transport and communication sector, and protecting the environment.

On March 31, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the unofficial summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States as a guest of honor online. At the meeting, he noted that the member countries of the council should focus on three areas of interaction, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

The Turkmen leader was invited to participate in the summit by the honorary head of the Turkic Council, the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Berdimuhamedov underlined that the heads of the respective states, first of all, should pay attention to the issues of ensuring global energy security. He noted the importance of establishing negotiations in this direction. Turkmenistan intends to do everything necessary within the framework of international cooperation to bring oil, gas, and electricity to world markets, he added.

The Turkmen leader also noted the need to expand the potential of the transport and communication sector. According to him, the transport and transit corridors formed on the territory of Turkmenistan will have a positive impact on the implementation of the relevant process. Berdimuhamedov reminded that the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, adopted 3 resolutions on the development of all types of transport.

According to the head of the state, one of the key vectors of cooperation within the Turkic Council should be environmental protection. In this direction, Berdimuhamedov focused on the difficult situation with the Aral Sea. Elimination of the scourge, which harms the health of people living in the relevant region, is urgent, he stressed.

The President also reminded that Turkmenistan co-authored the General Assembly resolution «On cooperation between the United Nations and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea». Before Berdimuhamedov proposed to develop a UN Special Program for the countries of the Aral Sea basin.

As part of his speech, the Turkmen leader expressed confidence that the decisions which will be made at the end of the summit will be positive for all parties.
