Dushanbe and Kabul sign large package of cooperation documents

Most of the cooperation documents aim to expand Tajikistan-IRA relations in the economic and security spheres.

On March 29, the ceremony of signing a large package of documents on cooperation between the two countries took place in Dushanbe in the presence of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Most of the documents aim to expand Tajikistan-IRA relations in the economic and security spheres, the press office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

The documents include the Action Plan to enhance relations in the trade, transport transit, energy and cultural sectors.

The Ministries of Internal Affairs of the two countries signed the Action Plan aimed at intensifying efforts to counter terrorism and extremism and combat illicit trafficking in psychotropic substances.

The documents included an agreement between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry on the creation of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan works council that would work towards increasing trade turnover amidst the coronavirus pandemic, in particular.

Speaking at a press conference, Rahmon said four shopping centres had been built on the border between Tajikistan and the IRA, and four free economic zones had been created in the regions bordering on Afghanistan.

The leader of Tajikistan said the authorities of the Central Asian country exported up to 1.5 billion kWh of electricity to the IRA annually. Tajikistan is planning to build the Rogun-Puli Khumri 500 kW power line and the Sebzor hydroelectric power station. Measures were being taken to speed up the implementation of the CASA-1000 project, the President added.

As was reported, Ashraf Ghani arrived in Tajikistan to attend the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process.
