Chess player from Turkmenistan Allayar Shirliyev defeated three opponents in a session of simultaneous blindfold games on several boards in Ashgabat. At the moment, the 17-year-old player is preparing for a similar session with 6 chess players. It was reported by the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper on March 13.
The competition was organized at the chess club of the capital’s sports complex «Bagtyyarlyk». As part of the game, the players had to mentally control the process and memorize the arrangement of the figures without looking at the board.
Shirliyev started playing blindfold chess at the age of 8. He has the 1st adult category. Tactics of young talents are focused on the attacking-combinational strategy, which is used by only a few chess players.
Vadim Shagiahmedov, an observer of Central Asia, a regular expert of CentralAsia.news, noted that it is not the first time when Turkmen sportsmen show high skills.
According to him, it is largely supported by the policy of Turkmenistan aimed at the comprehensive development of the sports sector, in particular through big investments, the opening of multifunctional stadiums, sports complexes, and specialized schools in cities and villages.
— Within close cooperation with the International Olympic Committee and sports federations, many sports are developing in Turkmenistan. They include relatively new ones for our country, such as motorsports, hockey, and figure skating, curling, bowling, billiards, — added Shagiahmedov.
He also reminded that the Turkmen weightlifter Yulduz Jumabayeva has become the world champion within the competition held in Ashgabat in 2018. The expert added that Turkmenistan will host the World Track Cycling Championships and the qualifying stage of the Davis Cup tournament this year, and the World Sambo Championships in 2022.
