Tokayev calls to use Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway corridor at full capacity

The leader of Kazakhstan made that call the 14th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization.

On March 4, speaking from the online rostrum of the international forum, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev characterised cooperation within the Economic Cooperation Organization as very promising, the press office of Akorda reported.

The leader of Kazakhstan said though the ECO Member States were actively collaborating, much work needed to be done to make sustained progress. In this context, he highlighted the need to use the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway corridor at full capacity.

Tokayev mentioned the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor among the promising projects, implemented jointly with the People’s Public of China. The leader of Kazakhstan reminded that the Xi’an-Istanbul-Prague freight train service, connecting Kazakhstan, China, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, was launched in 2019.

Addressing the honorary audience, the President of Kazakhstan expressed hope that multifaceted cooperation based on mutual interests and the implementation of innovative projects would help respond to modern challenges and prepare for the future.

The leaders of Turkey, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the ECO Secretary General participated in the summit.

In conclusion, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev wished Turkmenistan every success in its work as the ECO Chair for 2021.
