Four million Uzbeks vaccinated against coronavirus for free

The categories of people who will be vaccinated with medication made by China in collaboration with Uzbekistan have been determined.

According to the Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health of Uzbekistan, a list of categories of citizens who will be vaccinated free of charge has been compiled.

In total, over 4 million people in Uzbekistan will receive the vaccine, which is almost 12% of the population. The list included 1,613,000 elderly citizens aged 65 years and above, 888,000 citizens with chronic diseases, 448,000 medical personnel, 689,000 teachers of general educational institutions, 223,000 kindergarten teachers and workers, 180,000 representatives of the military and law enforcement agencies.

In addition, on March 1, in Uzbekistan, the State Center for Expertise and Standardization of Medicines, Medical Devices, and Medical Equipment registered a recombinant vaccine (CHO cells) ZF-UZ-VAC 2001 against a new type of coronavirus produced by the Chinese company Anhui Zhifei Loncom Biofharmaceutical. Uzbekistan has made a significant contribution to the corresponding production. Due to the fact that the Uzbek state became a co-author of the Chinese enterprise, the letters «UZ» are used in the name of the vaccine.

In addition, it was reported that Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov will buy 500 thousand doses for Uzbek citizens at his own expense. The state also waits for the supply of the European vaccine AstraZeneca within the international mechanism COVAX.

The possibility of producing «Sputnik V» in the Republic of Uzbekistan is considered as well.
