Patriotic military event in Ashgabat marks Day of Defenders of the Fatherland

The event took place at the Central Officers’ House of the Ministry of Defence of Turkmenistan.

On January 27, a number of patriotic military events marking the Day of Defenders of the Fatherland took place in the capital of Turkmenistan. The festive events were held in the foyer of the central building of the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defence, Neutral Turkmenistan Newspaper reported.

The patriotic military action began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monuments Baky şöhrat and Milletiň ogullary on the territory of the Halk Hakydasy memorial complex. Senior officers of the Ministry of Defence, law enforcement officers, lecturers and cadets attended the ceremony.   

The Address of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was read out for representatives of nine ministries and other government agencies during a meeting at the Central Officers’ House. State awards and military ranks were conferred to mid-level officers during the meeting. Over 40 representatives of the Ministry of Defence received Medal Watana bolan söýgüsi üçin (For Love of the Fatherland) and Medal Watan öňündäki birkemsiz harby gullugy üçin (For Impeccable Service) II and III degrees.

The programme of the festive event included an exhibition featuring museum collections of the State Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the State Academy of Sciences and a performance of the Merdana nesiller music and song ensemble of the Central Officers’ House of the Ministry of Defence. The event was accompanied by the songs, theatrical sketches, exhibition drills and showcase performances of athletes and special squad soldiers.

The song Cranes based on Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’ poem commemorating the soldiers who perished during the Great Patriotic War was performed during the solemn event.
