The President said that the Republic had defeated coronavirus disease, and Tajik economy grew by 4.5% in 2020.
On January 26, in his message to Parliament, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon reviewed the epidemiological situation in the country and stated that the life of citizens had improved. Emomali Rahmon said that the Republic had gain a victory over the coronavirus pandemic, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.
“The life of citizens has become better, though not much,” the leader of the country said.
The President noted that coronavirus infection had been eradicated in the country, but urged citizens of Tajikistan to wear facemasks and socially distance.
He said that the Government allocated 1.6 billion somoni (US$ 140.1 million) to support the healthcare sector in 2020. 30 new hospitals opened, more than 7,000 hospital beds were occupied and 16,000 reserve hospital beds were prepared throughout the country.
Benefits provided to entrepreneurs during the pandemic totalled 450 million somoni (US$39.6 million). Food production rose by 28%. Almost 200,000 new jobs had been created in the country, Rahmon said.
The President said that about 111,000 migrant workers were unable to leave the country due to travel restrictions; however, some of them were provided with jobs in the country.
The leader of Tajikistan stated that the economy grew by 4.5% last year compared to 2019, and GDP reached 82.5 billion somoni (US$ 7.3 billion). About 15 billion somoni (US$ 1.3 billion) of foreign investment were attracted to the national economy.
