Measures to combat coronavirus in Kazakhstan reported to Tokayev

According to the WHO, Kazakhstan ranks 109th in terms of COVID-19 cases per million population among 221 states.

On January 22, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a working meeting with Minister of Health Alexey Tsoi. The Minister had reported to the President on the measures taken in the country to combat coronavirus, the press office of Akorda reported.

The Minister updated the leader of Kazakhstan on the epidemiological situation, the stages of the pandemic and the global COVID-19 rankings. According to the WHO, Kazakhstan ranks 109th in terms of COVID-19 cases per million population among more than 220 states.

The interlocutors paid particular attention to the current epidemiological situation in the regions of the Republic. Tsoi reported that Covid-19 restrictions were being strengthened in the centres and settlements of the regions, and the resource base of the national health sector was being replenished. Hospital beds were 33% full and intensive care beds were 21% full with COVID-19 patients.

The Minister emphasised that although the number of people sick with coronavirus was growing, the situation in the country was kept under tight control, and, if necessary, medical services were ready to provide emergency assistance. The Minister said that the COVID-19 death rate had decreased fourfold, compared to July 2020.

The President instructed the Ministry of Health and all subordinate services to continue to monitor the epidemiological situation and prepare for a mass vaccination campaign to avoid unrest and misunderstandings.
