Sputnik V vaccine trials start in Turkmenistan

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry to continue to work on registration of the Russia-developed vaccine EpiVacCorona.

On January 22, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held an online meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. Minister of Health and Medical Industry Nurmuhammet Amannepesov reported to the leader of Turkmenistan on the work done in the health sector, the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reports.

The Minister said that the trials of the Russia-developed Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine had started in the country. The President instructed to strengthen measures to prevent infectious diseases in Turkmenistan.

The President also instructed to continue to work on registration of another Russia-developed vaccine EpiVacCorona, as well as similar medications being developed in other states.

Amannepesov also reported on the IX Turkmenistan-Germany Health Forum taking place in the country. The discussions focused on the issues of urology and women’s health.

As was reported, Turkmenistan is the first Central Asian country to register the Sputnik V vaccine and enters the top ten countries that have registered the vaccine.

As of January 22, 2020, no cases of coronavirus have been reported in Turkmenistan.
