New regulations on military service in Tajikistan

The draft law contains the new provisions concerning military service in the Reserve forces.

On January 18, a regular session of the lower house of Parliament of Tajikistan took place. Parliamentarians discussed the draft law “On universal conscription and military service” that would amend the regulations on military service in the Reserve forces, the press office of Parliament reports.

Head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Law Enforcement, Defence and Security Rustam Shomurod put the draft regulatory legal act forward for discussion. He noted that it comprised 10 chapters and 62 articles.

The document amends the regulations on military service in the Reserve forces. The high-ranking official informed that currently the number of citizens of Tajikistan in these forces was decreasing due to age requirements. The new law is designed to improve this situation.

The deputy proposed that graduates of military departments would receive the officer military rank after they had undergone compulsory military service for 12 months. Parliamentarians supported this legislative initiative.
