Turkmenistan and Pakistan enhance trade cooperation

Turkmenistan and Pakistan will enhance trade cooperation. Ambassador of Turkmenistan Atajan Movlamov and Adviser to Prime Minister of Pakistan Abdul Razak Dawood discussed this issue in Islamabad on January 7, the national public broadcaster for radio Radio Pakistan reported.

The officials noted that the level of bilateral trade remained below potential. The Adviser emphasised that the Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan was developing a strategy to involve Turkmenistan in trade cooperation of the five Central Asian states, the IRA and Pakistan.

Movlamov noted that the 6th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, which would be held this year, was of particular importance in this context.

Abdul Razak Dawood highly evaluated the proposal of Turkmenistan on rail and road transit of Turkmen goods through Gwadar port and Karachi port. In this regard, the parties discussed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Gwadar port and Turkmenbashi port.

The officials agreed that the Joint Working Group on Trade would hold the 3rd meeting in near future.
