Turkmenistan and the United States discuss the creation of the Central Asia Development Fund

Talks between Turkmen officials and representatives of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation dwelt on this theme.

On January 5, officials of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Bank of Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan held an online meeting with representatives of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The parties discussed the creation of the Central Asian Development Fund (C5 Fund), the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reported.

Minister of Finance and Economy Muhammetgeldi Serdarov said that the Fund would contribute to the well-being of the region and facilitate the implementation of a number of projects in Central Asia. The Minister noted that the C5 Fund would unleash the potential of industry, transport and agriculture.

Advisor to DFC Chief Executive Officer Caleb McCurry said that the primary focus would be to support business activity. He noted that the projects contributing to the well-being of Central Asia would be prioritised. He noted that only private actors would be involved in the process.

Chairman of the State Bank of Foreign Economic Affairs Rahimberdi Jepbarov invited the US corporation to take an active part in establishing the International Investment Fund of Turkmenistan. McCurry said that the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation was interested in this project.
