President of Kazakhstan reviews measures to ensure fair competition

The work on the draft National Project aimed at promoting competition was reviewed separately.

On January 5, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev received Chairman of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition Serik Zhumangarin. The high-ranking official reported on the measures taken to promote fair competition in the country and fulfil the tasks set by the President earlier, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reports.

Zhumangarin informed the President of the existing barriers to healthy competition on certain market platforms in the country. The President and the Chairman of the Agency discussed the progress in drafting the National Project aimed at promoting competition, as well as regulatory innovations related to denationalization and regulation of private and state actors.

Reporting on the short-term action plans, Zhumangarin informed the leader of Kazakhstan of the measures taken to optimize staff capacity. The Chairman of the Agency said that a Master’s Degree programme in competition law was introduced at Kazakh State Law University (KAZGUU).

Serik Zhumangarin reported on the progress in introducing early this year a transparent exchange trading system, including transactions on liquefied gas, petroleum products, minerals, electricity and agro-industrial goods. The President was informed in detail about the ongoing investigations in the pharmaceutical and oil and gas sectors to ensure trade transparency.

In conclusion, Tokayev instructed the Chairman of the Agency to perform all professional responsibilities conscientiously and keep the focus on the protection and promotion of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.
