Uzbekistan resumes gas exports to the north of Tajikistan

‘Blue fuel’ will be supplied to meet the needs of 100 industrial enterprises first of all.

On December 23, the symbolic commissioning ceremony of gas exports from Uzbekistan took place in Khujand, Sughd region of Tajikistan. The main supplier of ‘blue fuel’ exports is Sugdiyongaz. Gas will be supplied to meet the needs of industrial enterprises first of all, the Sugdnews News Agency reports.

The price for Uzbek ‘blue fuel’ will be $130 per 1,000 cubic metres, which is $230 lower than the price 10 years ago, and $20-30 less than the global gas price. Currently, Sugdiyongaz plans to supply gas to 100 industrial enterprises.

The top manager of the company Abdukhakim Sufiev said that gas would be supplied to residential buildings in the future, but he did not know when exactly. Now, citizens of Northern Tajikistan use coal and firewood for heating. Many of them got rid of gas stoves, which, according to the top manager of Sugdiyongaz, complicates the situation and extends time delays for gas supplies.

After equipment in residential buildings is installed, one cubic metre of gas will cost 2 somoni for citizens, which is half the cost of liquefied gas that is also consumed in Khujand.

As was reported, Uzbekistan halted gas supplies to Tajikistan in late 2011. The situation began to change after Shavkat Mirziyoyev came to power in 2016.
