Dushanbe and Kabul announce start of construction of railway bridge across Panj

It will be a part of the railroad between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

Head of MFA of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with Afghan Foreign Minister Hanif Atmar on September 17. They discussed the development of transport corridors, in particular, the construction of a railway bridge across the Panj. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the Tajik MFA.

Muhriddin noted that Dushanbe will create all the necessary conditions for the effective functioning of the future transit corridor Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran.

The officials announced the imminent start of a railway bridge across the Panj River to Kunduz. The project is a part of the Tajikistan-IRA-Iran railroad and is also linked to the North-South transport corridor.

Within the framework of the meeting, the ministers also discussed the draft railway communication Jaloliddin Rumi-Nizhniy Panj, which is a part of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan program.

Muhriddin and Atmar touched upon the topic of inter-Afghan negotiations. The Tajik minister expressed hope that this process will establish peace in the IRA. He marked that Tajikistan intends to increase regular supplies of electricity to Afghanistan.

It must be added that on August 21, Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with Afghan president Muhammad Ashraf Ghani.  They discussed partnerships in the field of energy and security.
