Tajikistan to spend $350 million on new road

The project includes the construction of a 75-km highway, 7 bridges, one tunnel.

The Tajik authorities will allocate 350 million dollars for the construction of the Obigar-Nurabad кщфв. The project was launched in June this year. It includes the construction of a 75-km highway bypassing the Rogun HPS reservoir. It was reported by ASIA-Plus on August 29.

To implement a large-scale project, Tajikistan received a 150 mln dollars loan from the EBRD, 50 mln dollars credit from the Asian Development Bank, and 40 mln dollars loan from the OPEC Fund. Moreover, ADB provided the Tajik government with a 110 mln dollars grant.

Local authorities intend to allocate 28.1 mln dollars from the state budget to exempt residents, whose houses will be demolished during the construction of the road, from taxation. Besides, they will be compensated.

The project includes a two-lane road, 7 bridges, a 2.6 km-long tunnel, 10 kVA transmission lines 2.95 km long, and distribution lines with a capacity of 0.4 kVA and a length of 2.1 km.

The government noted that the project will be finished in 2024.

It should be added that the construction of the new road is started because the old one is located in the flooding zone of the Rogun hydroelectric power station reservoir. The agreements on the implementation of the project were ratified by the parliament in the second half of February 2020.
