The rivals of the Turkmen athletes are the national teams of the DPRK, Turkey, Luxembourg, the UAE and Taiwan.
The national ice hockey team of Turkmenistan will take part in the Ice Hockey World Championships in the third division in group “A” on April 18-24, 2021. The tournament will be held in Luxembourg. Turkmen athletes will have to compete with teams from the DPRK, Turkey, Luxembourg, the United Arab Emirates, and Taiwan, as reported by the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper on June 30.
The issue was discussed in the frame of the online congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation. The videoconference was attended by heads of relevant organizations from 80 countries, including the chairman of the Turkmenistan Ice Hockey Federation, Jora Hudaiberdiev.
He marked that the main goal of the Turkmen team is to enter the second division. The chairman also underlined that the relevant hockey players have great chances to take a prize. At the moment, the head coach of the team is Bayram Allayarov.
Now Turkmen hockey players are undergoing summer training. In August, training will include regular games on the ice rinks. In autumn, the competitive process starts. The national hockey championship of Turkmenistan for the 2020–2021 season will start in Ashgabat in late September.
It must be added that Turkmen hockey players has won bronze medals at the 2019 World Championships in Bulgaria.
