Berdimuhamedov calls on 120 countries to jointly fight coronavirus

The Turkmen leader noted the importance of financial support and exchange of experience in the treatment of the epidemic.

On May 4, president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called on all countries of the Non-Aligned Movement to join efforts aimed at fighting COVID-19. The initiative was put forward during the online summit of the international organization. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by “Turkmenistan Today”.

The head of the state underlined that countering the pandemic requires the consolidation of efforts of all 120 member states of the organization and relevant international structures.

The president said that only short-term results can be achieved alone in the corresponding direction. He marked that an absolute victory over the 2020 challenge can be reached with the use of universal and large-scale strategy.

Berdimuhamedov proposed the development and adoption of a document within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, which will include the basic principles of joint work to combat epidemics, in particular coronavirus infection.

He noted that financial, organizational, and moral support will play a big role in the relevant situation. The Turkmen leader underlined the need for the exchange of experience, information on methods of treatment and prevention of infection.

The head of the state put forward the initiative to create a council of medical scientists from non-aligned states. Particular attention was paid to expanding the partnership of the Non-Aligned Movement and WHO.

As part of the speech, the president noted the importance of diversifying energy flows, restoring transport links and transit corridors. He also called on the summit to expand humanitarian assistance for migrants, refugees, and vulnerable populations during the pandemic.
