The development of horse breeding was also touched upon at the meeting. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by «Turkmenistan Today».

Currently, the state carries out comprehensive work to preserve the gene pool of Akhal-Teke horses. Back in 2016, the Turkmen government and the World Health Organization signed an agreement to create a horse disease free zone and provide technical assistance for animal breeding.

The parties noted that today the Turkmen authorities carry out selective breeding procedures aimed at improving the breed characteristics of horses. To this end, various government departments collaborate with relevant international organizations.

The officials have also highlighted that the public service of veterinary medicine takes all necessary measures to prevent various diseases among steeds. Special importance was attached to improving feed quality. The joint efforts of the WHO service and experts play an important role in this work.

It should be mentioned that the Akhal-Teke horse is the oldest and purebred breed of horses. The runners were bred about 5 thousand years ago in the territory of modern Turkmenistan. A distinctive feature of animals is beauty, endurance, speed, and the ability to adapt to almost any climatic conditions.
