Kyrgyz parliamentarian expresses concern about electricity tariff increase

Speaking at the meeting of Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan, a member of Parliament Balbak Tulobaev expressed dissatisfaction with a future electricity tariff increase. This idea was put forward by the team of President of the Republic Sadyr Japarov. The politician noted that the country has faced similar initiatives before, Tazabek reported.

It was previously stated that tariffs would increase only once, Tulobaev emphasised.

However, a draft law on an additional, second electricity tariff increase is now on the agenda. He expressed his concern and asked about a potential third tariff increase.

In Kyrgyzstan, electricity tariffs are expected to go up on May 1 this year. The authorities expect it to ensure reliable and uninterpreted electricity supply to the population, which is crucial in the face of electricity supply shortages. The Kyrgyz authorities intend to regularly revise tariffs to peg them to inflation rates.
