Tajikistan ranks 4th among most polluted countries

Tajikistan entered the list of countries with the worst air pollution in 2023, according to the Annual World Air Quality Report of the Swiss company IQAir. In Tajikistan, the air contains a lot of small aerosol particles that enter the atmosphere together with industrial emissions, car exhaust, natural fires and dust storms, ASIA-Plus reports.

Bangladesh topped the list with a level of 79.9 micrograms per cubic metre of air. The next positions are occupied by Pakistan (73.7 µg/m³) and India (54.4 µg/m³).

49 μg/m³ were recorded in Tajikistan, which exceeds safe air quality levels set by the World Health Organization by 7-10 times.

According to WHO recommendations, the annual average concentrations of PM2.5 should not exceed 5 μg/m³. The IQAir Report found that only 7 countries in the world, including Australia, Grenada, Iceland, Mauritius, New Zealand, Finland and Estonia, have air quality that meets the WHO air quality standard.
