President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov delivered a speech at the festive event marking Nooruz, informing about planned measures to modernise hydropower plants (HPPs) and increase their power output. In this way, the authorities will address the energy and water crises in the country, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.
The President informed that measures will be taken to increase the power output of hydropower plants throughout the country in 2024. The Bala-Saruu small hydropower plant will be commissioned in the near future. He announced the launch of the construction project of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydropower plant that plays a significant role not only for the Republic, but also for neighbouring states.
In Kyrgyzstan, work is underway to improve water supply networks to increase crop yields. In 2023, work started to clean irrigation canals. This year, measures will be taken to repair irrigation networks and develop infrastructure to provide clean water in rural areas.
“We are living in the age of dramatic climate change and witnessing the aggravation of water scarcity. However, our ancestors long ago defined the value of water with the words: “He who respects water becomes great, he who misuses water becomes poor.” That is why we use water and energy resources as efficiently and properly as possible,” Japarov said.
