Kyrgyzstan to introduce electronic voting at elections

Speaking at the forum in Moscow, Chairperson of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Kyrgyzstan Nurzhan Shaildabekova informed about the introduction of electronic voting at elections in Kyrgyzstan, TASS reports this.

Shaildabekova noted this system was tested at local government elections in 2023.

Shaildabekova emphasised that the introduction of remote electronic voting cannot be done by decision of the authorities, in one moment. It needs to be approved by voters and Parliament of the Republic.

The Chairperson of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda added that the reform of Kyrgyzstan’s electoral system has been going on for 10 years; its aim is to democratize elections. The Republic has opted for the model with biometric voter registration and computerised vote counting. This approach ensured reliable voting results and transparent election process.
