Olzhas Bektenov and WHO Regional Director for Europe meet in Astana

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov met with Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization Hans Kluge to discuss the outcomes and prospects of cooperation, the press office of the Prime Minister reported.

The meeting focused on the joint efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in healthcare. For example, the two-year agreement for 2024-2025 envisages ensuring universal health coverage, improving public health and enhancing human resources.

The World Health Organization is Kazakhstan’s strategic partner in the health sector. Thanks to the joint efforts, morbidity and mortality from various diseases were reduced. The initiative of the President of Kazakhstan to create a Coalition of Countries on Primary Health Care was supported by WHO and its member states. Olzhas Bektenov emphasised the importance of stepping up primary health care in the country.

Hans Kluge noted the progress towards the sustainability of the national health care system in Kazakhstan. The parties identified the areas of further work to improve the quality of health services and public health.
