Kyrgyzstan to spend about $3.5 million to support vulnerable populations

Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan Gulnara Baatirova met with Ambassador of Japan Hideki Goda and the Regional Director for UN World Food Programme (WFP) to discuss providing support for poor citizens of the country, the press office of the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The participants of the meeting signed a $3.5 million grant agreement to support vulnerable groups of the population. These funds will be used to purchase and distribute food products, including flour and vegetable oil.

Furthermore, part of these funds will be used to conduct advanced training courses for agricultural specialists and entrepreneurs and seminars for the participants in the Social Assistance on the basis of a Social Contract Programme throughout the country.

Baatyrova noted that cooperation with Japan brings tangible results. She mentioned the successful projects for apricot oil production and processing of medicinal plants that contributed to boosting economic growth and creating new jobs in the regions of the country.
