Kyrgyz parliamentarian speaks out against mining farms

Speaking at the meeting of Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, a parliamentarian Elvira Surabaldieva expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that mining farms continue to operate, consuming electricity imported from Kazakhstan, while the country is facing the energy crisis, Zakon.kz reports.

In response to Surabaldieva’s speech, Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev said he is unable to interfere with the operation of mining farms, as these companies, according to him, have agreements with Kazakhstan.

In accordance with the interagency agreements on bilateral water and energy cooperation, the amount of electricity imports from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan was set for a certain period, the press office of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan commented on the situation.

«The total amount of electricity imports from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan from September 2023 to April 2024 was set at up to 1.5 million kilowatt hours,» the press office of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reports.
