Authorities advise citizens of Kyrgyzstan to ‘save’ electricity

Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taliber Baygaziev warned about a possible decrease in the water level in the Toktoshul water reservoir in Jalal-Abad Region, where the Toktogul hydropower plant is located, Kabar reports.

He said the water storage reservoir contained 8.035 billion cubic metres in early 2023, but now this figure has decreased to 7.753 billion cubic metres, which may lead to disruptions in the operation of the power supply systems. Baygaziev noted that the critical, ‘dead’ volume of water in the water storage reservoir is 6.5 billion cubic metres.

The Deputy Minister urged citizens of Kyrgyzstan to save electricity to prevent further disruptions. He emphasised that the automated load limiter of the water storage reservoir has been activated to maintain the stability of the power supply system in the region.
