President of Uzbekistan reviews development of Andijan Region in recent years

On February 16, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the economic and social development of Andijan Region in Khanabad. It was noted that the unemployment rate in the region dropped from 9,1% to 7%, and business income doubled, which resulted in self-employment of 225,000 people, the press office of the President of the Republic reported.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed strategic steps to boost development of Andijan Region in 2024. It is planned to allocate an additional $100 million for the mortgage programme, 850 billion soums in loans and 50 billion soums for landscaping and infrastructure improvements in Andijan.

The President instructed that hydropower plants be built and road infrastructure modernised. The plans to launch the construction projects of solar plants with a total capacity of 400 MW in cooperation with China were announced.

The President was informed that 7 projects of the facilities that manufacture compound medications and medical products would be implemented in the region. Along with a local university, a pharmaceutical cluster will be created in the region.
