Labour migration from Tajikistan drops by 16% in 2023

In 2023, the number of Tajik citizens leaving to work abroad decreased by 16 percent compared to 2023 and fell to 652,014 people, the press office of the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of the Republic, led by Gulnora Khasanzoda, reported.

The majority of Tajik citizens who travel abroad to work are men (554,000). There are fewer women: 97,000. Most of migrant workers (627,028 people) went to Russia; they travel to Kazakhstan and other countries. The number of migrant workers who return home increased by 7 percent, up to 590,710 people.

In Tajikistan, the number of unemployed people dropped to 48,300 in 2023, which is 9.7 percent less than a year ago. Women make up 46.3 percent of the total number of unemployed people. The official unemployment rate is 1.8 percent.
