Turkmenistan participates in Annual Parliamentary Hearings

The Turkmen parliamentary delegation participated in the Annual Parliamentary Hearings (IPU), which took place at the UN headquarters in New York on February 8-9, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

The theme of the 2024 Annual Parliamentary Hearings is «Putting an end to conflicts: Prescriptions for a peaceful future». They brought together over 300 international experts and parliamentarians from different countries. The issues under discussion included measures of responding to modern global challenges and preventing and resolving conflicts through parliamentary diplomacy and mediation mechanisms.

The participants exchanged views on the role of national parliaments in ensuring government accountability in their efforts to establish and maintain peace and stability.

President of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Ackson addressed the participants.

In their speech in the New Threats to Peace and Technology Section, the members of the Turkmen delegation focused on the practical initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan to strengthen peace and security, including through inter-parliamentary diplomacy.

The Turkmen delegates briefed the participants on the outcomes of the International Year of Dialogue and the activities of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development.

Turkmenistan continues to boost cooperation within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. It is a member of 48 Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups.
