Belarus and Uzbekistan have increase bilateral trade by 15% in a year

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. The interlocutors discussed the outcomes of cooperation and prospects for development. They noted that bilateral trade increased by 15% last year, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

President Mirziyoyev emphasised that relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus, particularly trade and economic cooperation, have made significant progress. He said the number of joint ventures has increased fourfold.

The leaders of the two countries tasked the governments to increase trade to $1 billion in the coming years. To do so, the authorities of the two countries plan on creating a joint external trade company and introducing export and import support mechanisms.

Mirziyoyev and Lukashenko identified priority areas for cooperation. The key areas include the agricultural, light, food, pharmaceutical, urban planning and communications sectors, for each of which a working group will be set up.

The agenda covered the outcomes of the Second Uzbekistan-Belarus Forum of Regions. Following the forum, the companies from the two countries signed contracts and agreements worth over $1 billion.
