Parliamentarian proposes allowing driving faster in Kyrgyzstan

A parliamentarian Marat Murataliev put forward a proposal to raise the speed limits on certain sections of roads in the country during a meeting of the Kyrgyz Parliament –Jogorku Kenesh. In his opinion, the speed limits of 40-60 kilometres per hour on roads are not high enough, Sputnik reports.

The parliamentarian explained that modern cars, including SUVs, can travel safely at higher speeds. The current speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour was set for Zhiguli cars during the Soviet period.

The parliamentarian proposed revising these rules to meet modern requirements. Murataliev proposed raising the speed limit in populated areas to 80 kilometres per hour and the speed limit from 40 kilometres per hour to 60 kilometres per hour on the sections where the current speed limit applies.
