President of Kazakhstan accepts Government’s resignation

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev accepted the resignation of the Government of Kazakhstan. The reasons for this decision have not yet been disclosed. Roman Sklyar, the second ethnic Russian politician to hold this post, will be Interim Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Gazeta.ru reports.

«In accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I decree: accept the resignation of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan,» Tokayev’s Decree states.

This decision came into force upon signing the Decree by the President. The members of the Cabinet of Ministers will continue to work until a new Government is appointed.

Experts believe that Sklyar has a chance to remain in office after a new Government is approved, and this appointment will probably not affect relations with Russia.

Former Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov has led the Government for 2 years. He was appointed Prime Minister after the resignation of the Government led by Askar Mamin following civil unrest in January 2022.
