Uzbekistan to fine for changing and copying IMEI

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed an amendment to the Law on Amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility, imposing fines for unlawfully changing and copying an IMEI of mobile devices, which was approved by the authorities, Gazeta.uz Newspaper reported.

According to the new rules, a fine of 15 to 20 basic calculated amounts is imposed for violating the law, that is, changing the International Mobile Equipment Identity of a mobile device without the official permission of the manufacturer. A fine of up to 20 basic calculated amounts is imposed for changing or copying the IMEI.

These amendments to the law were adopted to combat new types of digital crimes. The new article that will come into force in 3 months is aimed at preventing unlawful activities in the mobile communications sector.
