Kyrgyzstan joins Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer

The National Centre for Maternal and Child Health under the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, headed by Shayirbek Sulaymanov, was chosen as the focal health organisation and joined the international programme — World Health Organization’s Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer, the press office of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reports.

This programme will help the Republic improve diagnosis and treatment of cancer among children, as well as provide affordable medicines and technologies. It will also provide social support to the families of children with cancer.

According to the Ministry of Health, participation in the programme will enable the country to increase the survival rate at least by 60% in 6 years. WHO’s experience shows that the programme has helped improve care for children with cancer, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
