President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the launch ceremony of 5 solar and 1 wind power plants, the construction projects of which were implemented by UAE’s Masdar, China Energy Engineering Corp. and China Gezhouba Group Co, EADaily reports.
«Today we will witness an important event that opens another bright page in the history of our country — the connection of 6 large solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2,400 megawatts to the power grid,» President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said, noting that these projects increased the capacity of Uzbekistan’s power grid by 15 percent.
The President noted that these public-private projects would cost $2 billion and produce up to 6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. Shavkat Mirziyoyev said this would enable Uzbekistan to save 2 billion cubic metres of gas and supply electricity to 2 million households.
